The physical concept of heredity helps in forwarding the information in the chromosomes and DNA of an individual to show the process of reproduction which involves heritable changes in the gene expression but no changes in the DNA sequence. This results in formation of new individuals with different characteristics and at the same time having a connection with their parent gene which is embedded in their chromosome. Heredity and environment both play a very important role in the development of the personality of an individual, this is also known as the nature versus nurture debate which explores the possibility and probability of influence of heredity and environment on the personality of an individual.

Epigenetics is the study of heritable changes in gene expression, in other words the study of transfer of genes which results in unique formation of offspring while maintaining the DNA sequence to identify the offspring to their parents.
