Ans) Ethics: Ethics are moral principles that govern a person's behaviour or the conducting of an activity.

Professional ethics is defined as the personal and corporate rules that govern behavior within the context of a particular profession. An example of professional ethics is the American Bar Association's set of ethical rules that govern an attorney's moral obligations.

Organizational ethics is the ethics of an organization, and it is how an organization responds to an internal or external stimulus.

* Ignorance in Organization ethics: Some misconduct may be due to:

  • Peer behavior
  • Organization pressure,
  • Lack of knowledge of thing
  • Lack of responsibility

* Organization ethics can be compromised by:

  • Resisting competitive threats
  • Meeting aggressive financial objectives
  • Meeting schedule pressure
  • Helping Organization survive
  • Rationizing that others to do it
  • Saving jobs

* Consequences of unethical practice/performance may succeed in short term but in long term it may not.

- Among the worst consequences/effects of unethical behaviour is

  • unable to forge or maintain any long-term relationships with customers
  • poor work environment would lead to a drop in productivity,
  • lowered morale and employee attrition, which would lead to the downfall of the organization.

In order to handle this situation, leaders role is:

- Every organization/leader has a "mission & vision" at the heart of which is the goal of succeeding.

- Leaders should motivate employees, guides them through the work process and build morale of Organization ethics.

- Leaders must keep in mind that organization ethics are the responsibility of organizational leadership and they play a key role in developing ethical organization to balance operational and cooperate goals with corporate moral obligations to internal and external stakeholders.

- Some proactive actions that address ethical issues and practice are essential i.e. a good code of conduct of which every employee is aware and which is actively enforced; an effort to create a culture of ethical performance seeking to influence every employee behavior.

- Leaders should always keep in track the organizational ethics are met or not in order to develop the need to fulfill the lackouts.
