Yes, I agree that people who read texts studded with links comprehend less than those who read traditional linear texts. Because texts studded with links has the following demerits.
Firstly the read lost the mental discipline. The reader can pause or minimise the reading activity due to internet slow or any external pressure. Then he lost the discipline of reading. At the same time when he read a traditional linear text, there is no technological problems such as slow internet connection etc and also there is no other external pressure too. Because the external pressure such as other people or peer groups can identify that he is in deep reading. So they don't disturb him. But in reading of text studded with links the peer groups or others doesn't know the fact that he is in deep reading. They just observe him that he is in simply sitting and looking the phone or system.
The second demerit is that it reduces the concentration of reader when other tune or call coming to the mobile phone. The online reading needs net connection then the notification of other apps such as FB, watsapp etc affects the reading. This problem is not in the traditional linear texts.
The third demerit is it reduces the critical thinking of the reader. He does not have a critical thinking while reading text studded with links. Because he just want to complete the reading not the time to think of it.
The reading of texts studded with links also badly affect the health of the reader. It badly affect the eyes, finger tips , shoulder etc of the reader. It definitely affect the mental health too.
So those who read text studded with links are less comprehend than those who read traditional linear texts.
