You are following four traits (a, b, c, and d). The following crosses were performed.

- Cross 1: a b female x c d male

F1 progeny: all wild type

- Cross 2: F1 female x F1 male

F2 progeny:    1600 wild type

(total 6400)     800 d

400 b d

800 a

400 a b

1200 c

400 dc

800 b

A. Describe the inheritance pattern for each trait.   Be as complete as possible.

B. Which, if any, genes are linked? Can you provide a map distance between the genes?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Recombination frequency (R.F.) between the genes c-d is minimum means they are linked, as they are closely located on a chromosome. If the value of Recombination frequency (R.F.) comes less than 17% it means genes are linked.

  • R.F. between a-b is 37.5% this value is greater than 17%, means these genes are located on two separate chromosomes means these genes are located on two separate chromosomes means they will be segregated independently during gamete formation.
  • Mode if inheritance of the gene b, c will be similar to the genes a-b, as described above because recombination frequency of them is greater than 17%.
  • Genes c-d are linked because their recombination frequency is minimum, thus they will not be segregated independently as they are closely located.
