Analyze the efficacy of Nike's 'Considered' footwear index scoring system
Nike introduced a new product line called 'Considered' which took an eco friendly initiative to make products out of recycled materials instead of harmful adhesives. To measure the environmental friendliness of the product while designing and manufacturing it a Considered Index was developed. It helped in creating predictive metrics based on which Nike's footwear were manufactured and verified uniformly. The metrics did not provide absolute measurements as the size of the shoe, design and purpose had to considered to set the metric which made it a complex system. The index evaluated the processes at every level for the metrics standard.
Comparing and evaluating the size according to the size and design became a complicated and slow process. They looked for the rightness in the products of upto 85% to the index scoring system. The system looked for criteria based on toxic hazard, usage of electricity and water, recylability and other issues of supply chain responsibility. The shoe index score was evaluated on EPM- enviornmentally preferred materials. Each EPM in the product would award a point to the product by the Index. This points totalled up were divided by the number of unique material of the shoe.
