Is the spirit and intent of Title IX written in 1972 is a reality today? Why or why not?
Title IX of the education amendments of 1972 protects people from discrimination based on sex in educational programs or activities that receives Federal financial assistance. The spirit and intent of Title IX was to ensure equal rights to all and to end sex discrimination in schools that receive federal money. But I don’t believe that the intent has become a reality today because there is still discrimination based on sex in educational as well as sports activities. The number of female students as well as faculties might have increased but the discrimination has not ended. Female students are still exempted from certain sports activities mentioning lack of physical features as well as limited number of girls to make a team. Girls have proved to be more intelligent than boys but certain educational programs are more accessible for boys because of the discrimination mentality of the authorities. Many of the incidents are not reported out of fear. Apart from discrimination, females undergo sexual harassment in educational institutions more often than before which also shows that the intentions behind Title IX has not become a reality and we need more controls to ensure equal rights in these institutions.
