Question
Dr. Whistle was interested in evaluating whether her therapy for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) was effective for treating a group of trauma (abuse) survivors. Thirty-eight trauma survivors received three weeks of therapy and then completed a PTSD scale. Dr. Whistle’s research hypothesis is that the mean PTSD score for those receiving the therapy will be less than for the general population of trauma survivors (μ = 65, σ = 8). Use null hypothesis testing (all steps) to answer Dr. Whistle’s research question. Be sure to appropriately interpret the confidence interval and effect size (even if it is subjective) and include a general summary of the results. Use α = .01. Show excel formula used.

A researcher is interested in the effects of a psychedelic drug in treating post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). To assess if the psychedelic may be effective in attenuating the severity of PTSD symptoms, she performs a pilot experiment to compare the effects of the psychedelic to the commonly‑prescribed selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) Sertraline in individuals diagnosed with PTSD. The amount of the psychedelic was selected based on an online forum in which recreational drug users describe their drug-taking experiences. Previous...

Scenario: Imagine that a psychologist working with veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder wants to compare the effectiveness of several therapies focused on reducing symptoms of anxiety. The psychologist randomly sampled 20 veterans who recently returned from combat and randomly assigned each of them to receive one of four interventions for 8 weeks. A survey was used to measure the participants’ anxiety at the end of the 8 weeks. Higher anxiety scores indicate more anxiety. You can find the data for...
