Why Americans are more likely to fear dying and death today than those living in an earlier time or another country.
Those who lived earlier faced had circumstances in life, which made them to confront death in their everyday life. They waited a year to name their children, as most of the children didn't crossed their first year. Poverty and hardships of life in earlier days made death a part of their routine life. Similarly, person living in another country may not have an advanced medical facilities and technology and comforts of life, to fear death. For them death is a part of their normal life.
The current situation of life, the emphasis on individuality, a longing to remain in youth and striving for it, and a mentality to overcome has caused fear of death in most of the Americans. They avoid talking it because they feel defeated at the hands of death, that makes their life finite. Their individuality and self love wants an everlasting youth, a never ending life. Death poses threat to their dreams and aspirations in life. Medical, technological, financial advancement had made life more comfortable and long. People wants to continue this life in present condition, hence, they don't like the topic of death.
