Describe three mnemonic devices. Describe a situation requiring memorization of material and discuss how the three mnemonic devices could be used. Explain which mnemonic device you think would be most effective.
Mnemonic devices
The techniques used by a person to remember something. In other words, it’s a memory technique to help your brain better encode and recall important information. It’s a simple shortcut that helps us associate the information we want to remember with an image, a sentence, or a word.
Mnemonic devices
1.The first mnemonic is referred to as a peg of the hook system. This is one of the most useful memory techniques, and like all mnemonic devices thissystem uses visual imagery to provide a ‘hook’ or ‘peg’ from which we hang (associate) our memories on. The Peg System gives an individual the ability to remember the numerical positions of items in a list in order or out of order. There are two variations of this system: rhyming peg and phonetic peg. The rhyming peg uses sound-a-like words to construct the number of pegs. This system is useful for short lists such as the grocery list. The phonetic system is less applicable to this grocery list, as it should be used when an individual needs to remember a larger number of items.
2.The second mnemonic that could be used is what is known as chunking. Chunking allows the individual to break up big amounts of information and organize the information into meaningful units. For example the owner of this grocery list could put butter and milk together because they are both dairy products, and putting sausage and eggs together because they are breakfast items.
3.
The Method of Loci
The Method of Loci is a mnemonic device that dates back to Ancient Greek times, making it one of the oldest ways of memorizing . Using the Method of Loci is easy. First, imagine a place with which you are familiar. For instance, if you use your house, the rooms in your house become the objects of information you need to memorize. Another example is to use the route to your work or school, with landmarks along the way becoming the information you need to memorize.
Acronyms
An acronym is a word formed from the first letters or groups of letters in a name or phrase. These can be used as mnemonic devices by taking the first letters of words or names that need to be remembered and developing an acronym or acrostic.
Rhymes
A rhymes is saying having similar terminal sounds at the end of each line. Rhymes are easier to remember because they can be stored by acoustic encoding in our brains. For example:
For me Rhyme Mnemonic device will be easier and effective .Music Mnemonic has is effective .
