Use of RO water or industries application of RO water are the following

  • For the drinking purpose by adding some mineral as in RO all the mineral are removed
  • Waste RO water can be used to wash off utensils because salt content in it does not let left food get stick to utensil.

  • Reverse osmosis is a highly economical and efficient way of obtaining drinking water from sea through desalination. Other methods like distillation are highly energy intensive, for desalination.

  • The membrane is a non-chemical, non-residue leaving, physical process of removal of contaminants from water. The removal of contaminants is dependent on the size of the pores in the RO membrane. Because of its very small size (of the order of 0.001 microns) the membrane is capable of removing practically everything from water, giving highly purified water. This water could also be used for surgical and pharmaceutical purposes.

Challenge of water industry

  • Urbanisation, sewer spillage risks, flooding, sustainable energy supply and climate change are few environmental challenges facing the water industry.
  • Many water purified by RO is not safe for drinking purpose as it may contain some virous which need to be removed further by UV rays which is very costly
  • increased population and urban sprawl can increase risk of storm water runoff pollution, if not managed correctly
  • key challenge for this industry is managing sewer blockages and subsequent spills that occur in the mains system. Often the first notification of a spill comes from a member of the public, hours and sometimes days after the first spill. This can intensify public health and environmental impacts and the cost of clean-up efforts.
  • Meanwhile rural and remote region’s services remain costly due to depopulation, asset disbursement and resourcing requirements. I
