Yes, the United States is experiencing a "narcissism epidemic". It is also been said that it is increasing very fast like wise the speed of obesity.
Individualistic culture that is being developed since time has lead to narcisstic behavior as individuals are becoming more self-centered. More over the cultural transformation that has been seen from past few decades is also one of the reason. According to some sources it is stated that the wrongly guided self esteem movment in the 1980s might also lead to the increasing narcissist behaviour
Narcissim is not purely a negative trait as there as possitivness in it as narcissim can lead to having a power of aithority which can later be helpful in leadership.
Narcissism should be considered a personality disorder as it is a mental state where a person is in their own bubble where they think they are superior and better than others. They have lack of empathy and need attention everytime.
