They are group of Proteobacteria, capable of photosynthesis.

The Carboxysomes are bacterial organelles, they consists of polyhedral protein shells filled with the enzyme ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase (RuBisCO) -the predominant enzyme in carbon fixation .

Carboxysomes formed by the assembly of a series of protein-protein interactions: the enzyme RuBisCO and the two isoforms known as the full length and short form , of the CcmM protein interact by means of the SSLDs. Then finally the CcaA the beta-carbonic anhydrase is brought into the carboxysome core.
