Solutions

Expert Solution

The neonatal dignosis for meningitis is-

  1. The accurated diagnosis is with lumber puncture of CSF or Cerebrospinal Fluid.
  2. If lumber puncture gets difficult in neonate due to its difficulty and clinical conditions like respiratory distress or shock or due to hypoxic conditions then if neonates with meningitis conditions should be clinically treated.
  3. If LP not done the signs like abnormal glucose level and presence of inflammatory cells can be indicative of meningitis. So a needle with trocar can be used for LP which can reduce the risk.
  4. The CSF of patient should be cultured even if it is undoubtful.
  5. If culture results are negative then one should go with PCR or polymerase chain reaction. The PCR for multiple pathogens that can cause meningitis should be done.
  6. CSF analysis should be contined over time until the normal CSF value doesnt come.

The chart is as follows
