how does police subculture police personality and the blue wall silence contribute to corruption
Police subculture is where police personnels shows conformity to set of beliefs that sets them apart from common civilians. They share common personality traits and adhere to the values of their culture. These things distincts them from a civilian culture and personality. The common traits of police culture and personality that differentiates from common civilians are machoism, authoritarianism, cynicism and aggression. They are bigoted in their beliefs towards the common civilians, are suspicious, conservative, they alienate themselves from the mainstream culture and show solidarity towards the police subculture. These traits creates a wall between the people and police. The blue wall silence means keeping silent at the malpractices of fellow police personnel. These three contribute to many malpractices within the police as receiving favors, doing/ not doing their duties for some financial gains, mistreatment of civilians, bribery, etc. As most of the police officials adhere to the norms of their culture, they remain silent at these corrupt practices within the department, this promotes and encourages corruption in the police department.
