Diverse nature of workforce brings together different people who have different viewpoints, beliefs and cultural attributes which they inherit from their elders, and different work experience and educational backgrounds that they gain through their environment, both at work and in life. Such a diverse team makes it easier to tackle complex business issues as it comprises of people who can solve it with ease, thanks to their multiple viewpoints and sets of expertise. With nature of business becoming increasingly global, thanks to the technological advancement and global scale of operations, the need to nurture and promote diversity has been increasingly becoming relevant. However, the alignment of diverse nature of workforce towards a common strategic objective and creating and maintaining a bonhomie between the team members is also a challenge.
The study of diversity is essential because it makes the last point - the alignment and bonhomie easier to achieve. Study of diversity is the only way an individual can develop curiosity, concern and respect for different human forms, cultures, races, languages, lifestyle, food, clothing and many other things that make everyone a distinct person. By developing respect, one can truly appreciate different personality attributes of the co workers who are culturally different and contribute in building a team based on mutual trust and respect, and finally contribute to the cause of organisation's development.
