During WW1 farms were turned into battle fields or had been left to deteriorate into as agriculture workers were forced into warfare. Making circulation of food difficult. Us became involved by managing the warfare supply, of food through distribution and transportation. According to Schumm “Slogans such as Food will win the war compelled people to avoid wasting precious groceries and encouraged them to eat a multitude of fresh fruits and vegetables, which were to difficult to transport overseas” (2013). All of this was done to maintain the strength of soldiers in war while citizens suffered and began to have less and less food for themselves and their families.

Food rationing was introduced in America during the WWl. As the farms in Europe were converted into battlefield and the farmers were forced to join army, and due to transportation difficulty of food items, waring Europe faced a severe food scarcity. When U.S entered the WWl, it helped the starving Europe by rationing food items in it's homeland and sending it to Europe. Peolpe in U.S were encouraged and guided to consume more perishable food items and save items as wheat, meat and other grains. These food items were sent to the soldiers in the battlefield in Europe and to the starving people over there. Thus, not only the soldiers, but, also the people of U.S played an important part in the WWl.
Similar food restrictions were applied during the WWll, but this time ration cards and stamps were issued. People were given limited food items as sugar , coffee, wheat, meat were on the list of restricted items. They were given these food in a limited amount and also government ensured that food items are not hoarded. It was interesting that people innovated their own way of hoarding and black marketing by bartering their favorite items in exchange of money or food items. Thus, the U.S managed supply of food to war front by rationing food in it's homeland.
