The main components of a cellular radio system. identify
the primary purpose of each, identify the two major components and
their respective subsystem. ensure you identify which components
interact with cellular phone and which components interacts with
public switched telephone network --
- The basic components of cellular radio system includes
--
- Mobile station standard -- a mobile station is
wireless devices that consists of control unit, antenna system and
transceiver for data and vioce transmission. for example --
GSM network.
- Air Interface -- the main interface protocols
are (TDMA) time division multiple access, (FDMA) frequency
division multiple access, and (MAC) medium access
control.
- Base station -- Base station is fixed station
in cellular system which is used for radio communication with
mobile units. they are radio channels, receiver antenna mounted on
tower and transmitter.
- Databases -- The database is used to keep
track of information for example -- caller location,
billing, and subscriber data.
- The main two database is called home location register
and visitor location register.
- Security mechanism -- the security mechanism
confirm subscriber and allowed access to network and authenticate
billing.
- Gateway -- This is communication link
between two wireless and wired system. the two
components of gateway is -- interworking function and mobile
switching center.
The two main components of cellular radio system is
-
- Radio interface - that allows user to wander
while communicating through radio from mobile station to other
components.
- Fixed network -- which is used in public switched
telephone network.
- The cellular radio system is classified by the marine,
military services and police.
- The main complexity of public cellular radio is control
structure that enables the network to know where the mobile station
is currently located and track wether it is making call.
- The control machenism is possible because of set of protocols
that enables mobile station to register on network,
controls radiated power levels, facilitates call set up and clear
down switches mobile station between base station as they travel,
and provide security system and perform vital
functions.
- The support sysetm of users on network is based on
"Common air interface" by using this users
communicate.
- The capacity of users is dependent on many factors but the main
one is amount of spectrum the regulatros allocate and size
of radio coverage area from basic station and amount of
interference a particular radio link can tolerate.
