Identify the main components of an information system. What is a mission-critical system?
software development
An information is a system designed to collect, process, store, and distribute information.
They are combinations of hardware, software, and telecommunications networks that people build and use to collect, create, and distribute useful data, typically in organizational settings.
The basic components of information systems are:-
1) Hardware - these are the devices like the monitor, processor, printer, and keyboard, all of which work together to accept, process, show data, and information.
2) Software- are the programs that allow the hardware to process the data.
3)Databases-are the gathering of associated files or tables containing related data.
4)Network-are a connecting system that allows diverse computers to distribute resources.
5)Procedures/Human Resources-are the commands for combining the components above to process information and produce the preferred output. It is associated with the manpower required to run and manage the system.
MISSION CRITICAL SYSTEM
A mission critical system is a system that is essential to the survival of a business or organization.
When a mission critical system fails or is interrupted, business operations are significantly impacted.
Mission essential equipment and mission critical application are also known as mission critical system.
Examples of mission critical systems are:
an online banking system,
railway/aircraft operating and control systems,
electric power systems,
navigational system for aircraft, andm any other computer systems that will adversely affect business and society when they fail.
Mission critical systems should remain very secured in all industries or organization using it. Therefore, the industries are using various security systems to avoid mission critical failures
