The Pre-Natal development can be divided into three stages which
are described chronologically as follows:-
- Stage 1 : The Geminal Stage
This stage usually lasts for two weeks after conception. After the
formation of the zygote, the cell division and development happens
at an exponential rate and the resulting ball moves along the
fallopian tube. Within 7 days of conception, the ball gets attached
to the uterus and this process is known as implantation.
- Stage 2 : The Embryonic Stage
This stage begins at the end of the Geminal stage and lasts for
about 2 months. It is during this stage that the ball of cells
develops into an Embryo. It is in this Embryonic stage that the
development of all the important organs and life-supporting systems
take place.
- Stage 3 : The Fetal Stage
This stage begins at the end of the Embryonic stage and lasts till
the birth of the child. The development of sex organs take place in
the fetal stage. Also the development happens very quickly as the
formation and development of bones and muscles takes place. Also
the brain increases rapidly in the size during this
stage.
