Solutions

Expert Solution

i) The first step in the release of fatty acid is by the activation of the receptor present on the cell. Hormone, usually epinephrine, bind tu the receptor and start the signaling cascade of fatty acid release.

So the first step is : Hormone binding to receptor.

ii) Now in second step, binding of the hormone to the activate an enzyme which forms cAMP from ATP. This enzyme is called adenylyl cyclase.

So the second step is : Adenylyl cyclase activation

iii) Activation of adenylyl cyclase will quickly generate cAMP inside the cell. cAMP is a secondary messenger inside the cell which signals other molecules to be activated.

So the third step is : cAMP production

iv) cAMP as I stated above is a secondary messenger. Its presence inside the cell will activate kinase inside the cell. This kinase will activate another molecule further down the line.

So the fourth step is: Protein kinase activation

v) Protein kinase activity is to phosphorylate different proteins and this phososphorylation can either activate or deactivate a protein. In this case, phosphorylation will activate lipase enzyme which will generate free fatty acids.

So the fifth step is : Triacyl glycerol lipase activation

vi) Free fatty acid generated will leave the cells and picked up by albumin to be transported to other part of the body.

So the sixth step is : Fatty acid binding to serum albumin
