Many constructivist approaches to learning recommend five conditions for learning. In light of these five conditions, contrast traditional classroom teaching with teaching based on these constructivist conditions.
The five constructivist conditions of learning are built on 5Es approach, which include
When a teacher uses the constructivist approach, they would be setting up problems and would be monitoring explorations by the student. The teacher would also be guiding any inquiry that has been brought up by the student. The teacher does not have any set data, instead, they work with data that is relatively raw and the material has to be interactive with open ended questions so that the student could be applying critical thinking approaches. The constructivist teacher does not provide strict adherent rules, but asks the student to explore so that they would learn by accumulation and application of concepts and in a manner where their knowledge would increase exponentially.
This method of teaching is much in contrast with the traditional classsroom teaching in which the teacher would bring forward the concepts and either explain them verbally or through presentations and the questions asked would only be based on the taught lessons. There would not be any homework or applicable concepts and there would not be any scope of exploration. The markings would be based on the traditional system where the better the concepts are memorised the higher the would be the score..
