A) what is the difference between BOD vs COD and sBOD vs sCOD ?
B) Explain the application of using TBOD, sBOD, sCOD and TCOD.
C) which measurement should be used to evaluate or make sure that the process is working properly: i) Primary treatment ii) Secondary treatment with clarifier iii) secondary treatment with membrance
A) BOD vs COD
BOD or Biochemical Oxygen demand is the measure of the amount of oxygen required by the microorganisms to break down the organic matter in a sample of water.
COD or Chemical Oxygen Demand is the measure of the amount of oxygen required for the chemical oxidation of organic matter in a sample of water.
sBOD vs sCOD
sBOD or Soluble Biochemical Oxygen Demand is the measure of the dissolved food for the microorganisms in a sample of water.
sCOD or Soluble Chemical Oxygen Demand is the measure of oxygen required fir chemical oxidation of dissolved or soluble organic matter in a sample of water.
B)TBOD - The measure of Total Biochemical Oxygen Demand is used to make sure that the condition of a water body is safe for the organisms in it.
TCOD - This helps in analysing the effect of the discharged wastewater on the amount of dissolved oxygen in a water body.
sBOD - Soluble Biochemical Oxygen Demand measurement helps to determine the quality of water due to the amount of dissolved organic matter in it.
sCOD - This measurement helps in the analysis of dissolved organic matter for water treatment processes.
C)i) Primary treatment - Primart treatment involves settlement , grit removal and removal of solid waste .The water becomes clearer and may have dissolved organic waste so , COD and BOD results may be calculated.
ii) Secondary treatment with clarifier - This process involves removal of the microorganisms dissolved in the water so , DO should be calculated.
iii) Secondary treatment with membrane - This process involves filtration so solid wastes are separated so , the calculation of sCOD and sBOD should be done because the water has dissolved organic matter in it.
I hope I was able to answer your question, if you have any doubts ,let me know in the comment section.
Have a nice day :)
