How was the development of DuBois’ leadership beliefs influenced by his parent’s economic background and social status?
The development of DuBois’ leadership beliefs were influenced by his parent’s economic background and social status by following ways:
(1)Du Bois was born to Alfred and Mary Silvina Du Bois. Two years after his birth his father, Alfred Du Bois, left his mother.
(2)Mary Silvina Burghardt's family was part of the very small free black population of Great Barrington and had long owned land in the state.
(3)She was descended from Dutch, African and English ancestors.
(4)Du Bois's maternal great-great-grandfather was Tom Burghardt, a slave (born in West Africa) who was held by the Dutch colonist.
(5)These social and economic background developed a few leadership beliefs in Du Bois.
(6) Du Bois believed that capitalism was a primary cause of racism.
(7) He was generally sympathetic to socialist causes throughout his life.
(8)He was an ardent peace activist and advocated nuclear disarmament.
