Write a journal entry (approximately 200 words). Your journal entry should interpret the strengths and weaknesses of one (or more) ethical viewpoints discussed in the reading assignment. Your entry should also share your personal ethical views on the issue(s) presented in the reading assignment. Issues presented: Violence and War
Ethical and moral considerations weigh heavily on the phenomenon of Violence and War.
One of the classic arguments of war is that soldier of each party only attach those who are attaching them, they are not attacking the by standers.
But, the Just war theory is considered to be deeply immoral and unethical by sundry intellectuals across the globe in the basis that, the just war theory of war makes war sound like it is Normal and that it does not have to be evil, but the actions committed in war are justifiable.
Whereas, the acts that are committed in war are morally flawed and are deeply unethical as for the mere reason of the act that is committed by both the parties in the crime.
The heinous crimes that are committed when in war cannot be justified by the just war doctrine.
If we look at the Kantian ideology of ethics, war would be denounced in thst as well. According to the categorical imperative, there are certain things that a person must do, despite the circumstances.
Now, Kant was of the belief that anything that hurts another human being cannot be justified and is morally void. According to the categorical imperative a person must bit indulge in anything that harms another person despite the (war) circumstances.
But with the advent of the nation state and national interest there is an inherent flaw in the ethical and moral system, which justifies anything and everything for the sake of national interest.
According to me, the pacifist view is extreme in its own, but it can be used to an extent wherein the laws of marolity do not make one docile and incompetent.
But a view of a more non violent approach, according to me, has been skewed to due to the thrust of biological and nuclear warfare, which creates a lock of security dilemma between two nations states, and builds the tension further.
