(Answer) Even during the 17th and 18th centuries, art has always mirrored reality through the tinted glass of fantasy. This influence of reality was a lot more evident during the two world wars. Film, paintings, sketches and music generally depicted atrocious figures that were likened to the axis powers of the war.
Similarly, with current events, there seems to be a major displacement that is taking place in terms of the kind of authority that the people want to be compatible with. It is evident that most ethnic minorities and even certain majorities, do not want to be associated with demagogues.
The major issues that have stood out are women’s rights, rights of black, Islamic and other ethnic minorities and violence from white terrorists. These issues are finally making it beyond college essays and demographic research. They are finally being represented in film, music and the arts in a way like never before.
Films like “Wonder Woman”, “Black Panther” and even “Love Sick” explore individuals of minority groups. Even old franchises like “Star Wars” have been accommodating actors of colour. This was previously something that the “Star Trek” franchise began in the 1960’s.
In order to notice these positive changes, it is essential to look back at the film and arts industry before this artistic revolution. One would notice that a majority of the films and arts represented only a certain kind of people and in a certain way. This led to the entertainment media forming a certain standard in the minds of the people.
As of now, people have begun to express themselves with a truth that was ignored for a very long time. A white American who shoots innocent children is being called a terrorist, it is no longer unusual to have a film with a mixed or all coloured cast and awards are actually being won by people other than the white majority.
This is not to say that one group is better than the other, rather it is to say that every group is equal to every other group.
