Why is a nuclear power plant less efficient in converting heat energy to electricity than a fossil-fueled power plant?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Yes it is correct for current situation that generating electricity from nuclear power energy is less efficient than the Fossil fuel plant for producting electricity this is because of the following reason.

: First from nuclear atom or mineral like thorium uranium are the source of energy or nuclear power by the process of nuclear fission or fusion but it leads to rise the temperature of earth thyselvs.uf next coming year the consumption of nuclear energy increased it leads to rise the temperature of earth surface.

Second it was expensive as well as risky as compared to Fossil fuel where a lot of unskilled labour can get job.

The by product of the nuclear energy producing are also dangerous to the earth as it have potential to affect it it hampers the environment.

Nuclear power plant is not is to continue the process of minning and quarrying but it is that not easy to handle n not easy to play..

In a nuclear power plant, heat from radioactive decay boils water and produces steam. If 250 Liters/min of water are turned to steam, and the efficiency of this system is 0 .5575% then determine: a)How many Joules/minute can be produced by this generator? The latent heat of vaporization of water is 2,230 J/g. b) if the energy content of the enhanced Uranium fuel used in the reactor is 500,000 MJ/kg (really!), how much Uranium PER YEAR is “used” to boil...

Governor John has decided that, rather than build a new nuclear power plant to service power needs, the state should save an equivalent amount of energy. As one component of an efficiency plan, he has turned to you, his top aide, to design a policy to encourage adoption of compact fluorescent (CF) lightbulbs. Although CFs save a tremendous amount of money (and energy) over their lifetime, they are quite expensive initially ($20 or so per bulb in 1993). In addition,...

Label the components of a nuclear power plant A 462.5 ng sample of an unknown radioactive substance was placed in storage and its mass measured periodically. After 47 days the amount of radioactive substance had decreased to 57.81 ng. How many half-lives of the unknown radioactive substance have occurred? Sodium-24, which is used to locate blood clots in the human circulatory system, has a half-life of 15.0 h. A sample of sodium-24 with an inital mass of 24.5 g was stored for...
