List one common method by which rock strengths are tested for the Rock Mass Rating Classification?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Rock Mass Classification of the rocks classifies the rocks for further construction process.

As this rock mass classification is very important in the design and construction of excavation in rocks, such as tunnels, foundations, etc.

Therefore to avoid the failures of the structures the Rock mass Rating is very essential.

There are different Rock mass Rating Classification as per engineering classification system -:

1. Groundwater Conditions

2. Spacing of Discontinuities

3. Uniaxial Compressive Strength

4. Rock uality Designation

5. Orientation of Discontinuities

Therefore, according to this the rocks may be classified under 5 categories -:

Very Poor, Poor , Fair, Good, Very Good

Field Point Load Testing is the common Method for the testing of the strength of rocks. As this method is inexpensive and an effective method for the testing for the rocks strength. Moreover there is simplicity in specimen preparation for the testing.

One method of measuring the mass of a virus particle is to use a laser to measure the oscillation frequency on a thin silicon wafer that is 28nm long. Then you put a virus on the silicone wafer and measure the frequency again. We do not need to delve into how the actual the device looks like we can use the model of a mass of a spring to describe the physical process. The following data comes from an experiment,...
