Medical coding is otherwise called as Medical classification.It is the transformation of healthcare diagnosis,procedures,medical services,and equipment into universal medical alphanumeric codes.Medical coding is very important in medical billing process in health care industry

In the medical coding the medical coders transform procedures,disgnoses,and medical services and equipment into universal medical equipment into universal medical alphanumeric numbers.These should be helpful the patient data for the insurance purposes.

Globally there are mainly 2 types of medical coding and one sub-part

1.ICD-10

2.CPT and

sub-part of CPT ie,

*HCPCS Level II

1.ICD-10 Classification

The ICD-10 classification is called as the "international Classification of Diseases,Tenth Edition.This system came in to existence in 2015.Previously instead of ICD-10, ICD-9 was used .The ICD-10 is the improved form of ICD-9.

In the improved form of ICD,than the ICD-9 more codes and classification for updated conditions and diagnoses are offered.

ICD 10 classification was formulated by World Health Organization and it is globally approved for all countries.The ICD-10 is again classified in to ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS.

Here the ICD-10-CM stands for Clinical Modification and ICD-10-PCS stands for Procedure Coding System.The ICD-10-PCS is used for inpatient hospital procedures.Now a days it is approved and accepted by all the contries for wide variety of disease diagnosis and procedures

2.CPT

The CPT stands for "Current Procedural Terminology".It is a set of medical codes that is formulated by American Medical Association.It is having mainly 3 sub-parts such as :

Category I:Procedures that are consistent with contemporary medical practice.These codes are used for wide variety of medical,surgical and diagnostic procedures.It is a five digit code

Category II:These are code used as an supplementary basis.This category is mainly used for performance measures.It is a alphanumeric tracking code

Category III:These codes are used as a temporarory basis.These codes areused for emerging technology,services and procedures.

*HCPCS code:

The HCPCS stands for "Health care common procedural coding system.These codes are based on CPT code.

This code is not related to physician,and it is related to miscellaneous such as ambulance service etc
