What is the difference between Lamarck and Darwin’s explanations of species change?
The biggest differences between Lamarck and Darwin's explanation of species change is-
Darwin thought that the organism could induce their own changes while Lamarck thought that change could be not be induced by the oneself but by the environmental changes.
Darwin said that genes was the factor that controlled the ability to survive . He said that, "Survival of the fittest. " Only the ones with strong genes will survive and focus less on adaptivity of organisms to its environment while Lamarck said that genes provide the basis for the ability to adopt to changing environment and its needs. One such example Lamarck gave was - As the trees began to grow, the taller giraffes responded to this change by use of neck muscles extensively causing longer necks to continue feeding. This was the adaption in response to the changing environmental needs.
This was the two different contrasting theories by Darwin and Lamarck regarding the species change.
