  • We know that the Lamarck proposed Theory of Inheritance of Acquired Characteristics, in the year of 1801, while Darwin's book based on natural selection in the year of 1859. According to Lamarck, organism changes during their lifetime, because they want to adjust themselves according to the environment, and these changes are transferred from the parents to their offspring.
  • So the change in characteristics is due to need for organisms. E.g. initially the elephants have short trunks, but when there is the scarcity of water, as well as food, observed, then the elephants started to stretch their trunks to get the branches of trees and water, and these characteristics are inherited in their offspring and the offspring born with the long trunks.
  • Darwin theory was based on biological evolution, and according to him, all species of organisms develop and arise through the process of natural selection, due to small, change, that causes the capability of an organism to compete with the other organism, survive according to the environment and also capable of producing their offspring.
