2) Describe a real life example of positioning and use the concepts outlined in the text to explain why positioning is an important element when it comes to targeting customers in your example.
Answer: One real life example of positioning was when a new fast food restaurant service that opened in my neighborhood used positioning strategy for attracting customers towards it. Our locality was a middle class locality and the people looked for value for money. The restaurant in its posters and banners highlighted the low costs and good quality that the company offered to the customers. It was because of this positioning the company was able to create an appeal for its target customers namely the residents of our locality. Positioning involves highlighting the specific areas of a company’s offerings that have the maximum appeal to the target audiences. Each group of target audiences have certain expectations that appeal them the most. When a company in its promotion highlight those aspects of their products and services that have a maximum appeal to the expectations of the target audiences then it is able to position itself favorably in the minds of the customers. Thus by highlighting the quality and low price the new restaurant in our locality positioned itself a service that offered value for money to its customers. This helped it to attract the customer towards itself. Positioning is therefore important for attracting and targeting the customers and attracting them towards the products and services of a firm.
