what are the benefits of teaching history of science in pedagogical aspect?

Solutions

Expert Solution

There are significant benefits when it comes to teaching history of science from a teaching perspective. Firstly, it inculcates a sense of amusement in the students as they can observe where we are coming from. For example. when learning about modern computers and technology, teaching about the history is expected to increase the interest of the students in the subject and they are also more expected to respect the technology that they use on an everyday basis. The same goes for science and the various aspects of history. When talking about the periodic table, it is imperative to talk about the various scientists who have made significant contributions to making the table and it would lead to a greater appreciation of the same.

Also, teaching the history of science would also make the students aware of the importance of 'failure' in science and how it is an inevitable aspect of research. It is the scientists who work despite the failures that make significant contributions to their domain. With the help of failures of some notable scientists, the teachers would be able to motivate the students in an efficient manner.
