How does this compare to the teaching of controversial issues in American history such as slavery or atrocities against Native Americans such as the Sand Creek Massacre, which were either not or barely mentioned in any textbooks until the 1960s?
American society’s today’s development and growth might seem that it has been built in a just way by the so called white owners of America. If we travel back into history, we could witness the blood stained history, violence and atrocities that were unleashed on the Native Americans and the African Americans. In today’s standards, the actions of the White Americans in the name of color are uncivilized, barbaric and unethical. Native Americans protected America for thousands of years and the African Americans built America on par with the White. The sufferings of these two communities are not included in the history books because it would bring out the brutality of the White Americans. Even after declaring slavery as unconstitutional, Whites, mostly in the South unleashed hell on the Black community. History books are written by the winners of the war and the defeated will never come into the picture. That’s what happened with the American History as well. The cruelty of the White Americans were recorded as heroic acts.
