What is the main advantages of utilizing a single multivariate analysis over multiple bivariate analyses?

Solutions

Expert Solution

1.Single multivariate

Multivariate Data Analysis refers to any statistical technique used to analyze data that arises from more than one variable. This essentially models reality where each situation, product, or decision involves more than a single variable. Multivariate statistics is a subdivision of statistics encompassing the simultaneous observation and analysis of more than one outcome variable. The application of multivariate statistics is multivariate analysis.

In addition, multivariate statistics is concerned with multivariate probability distributions, in terms of both

  • how these can be used to represent the distributions of observed data;
  • how they can be used as part of statistical inference, particularly where several different quantities are of interest to the same analysis.

  2.Multiple bivariate analyses

Bivariate analysis is a simple (two variable) special case of multivariate analysis, where multiple relations between multiple variables are examined simultaneously. Bivariate analysis is one of the simplest forms of quantitative (statistical) analysis. It involves the analysis of two variables (often denoted as X, Y), for the purpose of determining the empirical relationship between them.

  • The primary benefit of multivariate techniques is that it gives researchers a vital tool to examine relationships between variables and to quantify the relationship between those variables. For example researchers can study the impact of a new drug on depressed patients. If the results show that 70% of the patients who take that drug feel happier, then researchers can conclude that the relationship between the two variables (drug and depression) exist and they can quantify that relationship by alluding to the fact that 70% felt better.?
  • Another benefit of multivariate techniques is that researchers can also manipulate the conditions under which the association takes place. For example, if the subjects exercise in the morning, does this have a greater impact on their overall well-being as opposed to exercising in the evening.

?Some people might say that there are some disadvantages of multiple bivariate techniques in which the process can be complex and involve high-level mathematics capabilities. For the results to be truly significant, the number of subjects in a study should be quite large so that the results would expected to repeat themselves if administered to another sample group.
