Hi Answer:
Q. What is “transcriptomics" and what advantages do zebrafish present for transcriptomic analyses?
Answer: Transcriptomics is recently coined term which deals with the study of total mRNA content of an organism. In this field total mRNA means the total amount of mRNA produced by the various genes after their transcription. This complete mRNA collection of an organism is known as transcriptome. In transcriptomics, various factors such as sequence structure, interaction with environment and applications of the mRNA are studied. The various method used for the transcriptomics analysis are microarrays, cDNA sequence methods, Tag base methods and RNA sequence-based methods.
Advantage of zebrafish in transcriptomics: Zebrafish is the freshwater fish and used widely as a model organism for scientific research. It is mainly known for its regenerative abilities. There are many types of transgenic zebrafishes are generated by the researchers to study the various gene expressions. It is considered as a unique model for research such as drug development and disease modeling. Zebrafish shows genetic homology with the human due to this feature zebrafish is a very much convenient model for the developmental studies. In addition to this Zebrafish is also used as the disease model to study the effect of various drugs on the disease. As described above that zebrafishes have regeneration capability. This feature of zebrafish help researchers and show a ray of hope to find the regeneration of human heart. It is also seen that there is also homology between the zebrafish swim bladder and human lungs this feature also very much important to study the human lung disease such as cancers etc. At last the zebrafish is easy to rare and easy to handle. These all feature (homology and convince to handle) make zebrafish a suitable model for transcriptomics analysis.
