  • Water at 100 degrees celsius and 1atm pressure attains the boiling point.
  • At the boiling point, the atmospheric pressure and the vapour pressure of water attain equilibrium.
  • Atmospheric pressure is nothing but the applied pressure on the vessel containing water.
  • In case of boiling of water, the water boils to form water vapours.
  • At a constant temperature of 100 degrees celsius, if the pressure increases drastically to 40atm, the particles of water come closer.
  • As the particles come closer volume of water decreases.
  • Thus at immense high pressure of 40 atm water will solidify as the particles are tightly pressed to a constrained volume.
