Discuss ONE (1) of the following ethical dilemmas using the ethical decision-making framework (model) given below or another model that you know I’m working on a project that will make a lot of people in our business redundant. Soon we will prepare the list of people affected and I know my friends will be included. I feel terrible and am not sure I can keep working on it. What can I do?
When making a decision make sure that you have followed the following 5 steps for ethical decision making.
Assesment
Alternatives
Analysis
Application
Action
These 5 steps will help you to make sure whether you are doing the right thing and whether its the right people being layed off and the right staff being held back. Friendship is an important thing, but it should never corelate or be a hindrance for the business. There are no friendships in business.
So evaluate your decision on the basis of the steps above. Assess the sitaution and know whether its the right thing you are doing and whether you have all the neceassary facts to take a decision.
Check for alternatives maybe, Is there another way out of this problem. A way in which everyone can still be kept employed and even then the business moven forward or if this is the only way out for the business.
Analyse the situation completely, know who has to be removed, keep friendship aside and analyse as to who are working well and who are not much needed and make decision based on that analysis which is not biased.
Apply your ethics and then finally bring to action the decision that you made. forget all other aspects. It was taken because thats the best decision to move forward your business. We cant keep friends as employees just because they are friends. If they are beneficial for the business then only keep them.
Hope this answers the question. If you liked the answer please give an up-vote. It would be highly encouraging for me. Thank You.
