Describe the behavioral characteristics of a learner in a motor skill of your choice for each of the three Fitts and Posner learning stages
The first and posner’s three stage model includes:
Cognitive stage:
In this stage, there would be large numbers of errors in performing. There would be gross performance errors. There is a huge variability in performance from one of the attempts to the second attempt. Although, beginners may be knowing whatever they would be doing, if they are doing something wrong, and that they are not aware of what has to be done next time.
Associative stage:
During this stage, there are lesser number of errors , lesser gross performance errors, variable performance from one attempt to another, also, they develop the ability in determining errors in performance of skills , some of the fundamental skills been learned by this stage, and concentrates on refining of skills.
Autonomous stage:
In this stage, the errors in performance are minimised and is almost not there. There is non existent gross performance errors and variability in performance within attempts have almost been reduced. There is ability of a person in detection of errors and people tend to be making contact errors, where, the skill becomes almost habitual and automatic and skill could be performed without thinking.
