Introduction: A skill is the ability to perform a task often within a given period of time, resources or both, with calculated results. Skills may also be divided into general-domain and domain-specific competencies. For example, certain general skills in the field of work would include time management, teamwork and leadership, self-motivation, and others, while domain-specific skills can only be used for a particular job. Skill typically requires certain external conditions and circumstances to determine the level of ability exhibited and utilized.
Three-Skill Approach: The approach to skills is the idea that a leader has certain capabilities which allow him or her to serve as a leader. Specific skills are required more than others, depending on what level of management one is in. Middle management demands all the skills. The three elements of the Three-Sill Approach are - Technical, Human and Conceptual Skill.
1. Technical Skill: Technical skills are the expertise and skills someone has in a specific field. This expertise is particularly important in the lower management levels but it is less important when you work your way up technical competence. "Top level individuals rely on professional associates" to manage the technological problems while focussing elsewhere. In simple words, Thechnical skill - means Knowledge and expertise of a specific form of job or operation. Requires professional abilities, analytical capacity and the use of suitable methods and techniques.
2. Human Skill: Human capacity is the experience one has and the ability to communicate with people. The skills of people in life are important to this. It is key to managing an company and attaining an goal. A human skill is one which enables people to work with. It is different from the technological skills that have to do with things. Those skills help us get along with people as well as connect and work inside teams. In simple words, Human skill means -Awareness of and willingness to communicate with people - abilities of people.
3. Conceptual Skills: Conceptual Skill is the ability to work with the principles and ideas. It is the capacity of the leader to verbalize and reflect on the ideas that form an organization. To create a vision and execute a strategic plan, this expertise is essential. A Conceptual skill is ability to deal with concepts and ideas. These skills allow us to better understand and determine the actions and steps that need to be taken in a particular area of work. In simple words, Conceptual skill means - Ability to work with ideas and concepts - Central to creating a vision and strategic plan.
