ETHICAL DILEMMA

What Would You Do?

You and your group have been working on your panel presentation about the death penalty for several weeks, with one week to go before you are responsible for conducting the panel discussion in your class. This project represents a major portion of your grade in the small group class, and you are required to conclude your presentation by taking a position—your group must come out either in favor of or against the death penalty. After hashing this out for weeks, you have sorted through all your evidence and have almost reached a consensus that you will come out in favor of the death penalty. This week, while doing library research for another class, you happen upon a new study, based on systematic examination of states with the death penalty, that strongly suggests the death penalty does notdeter crime. The study seems well done; you don’t think you can dismiss it as a piece of biased or poorly done research. But you know if you present it to your group, you’ll push your emerging consensus further away, and you hate to do that! You are so close now to an agreement, and you know this study will set you back. What do you do?

1. Reasons for presenting the article

• It is neccessary to reveal the both angles of researchers opinion on death penalty punishment.
• Make the peers aware about the how death penalty situation or crimes
• Some believes death penality act as deterrent crime.
• It the responsibility of the presenting team to study and research on topic in depth before presentation, so differents araises and it can shared with peers for a common understanding. and discussion.

2.Reasons for withhold the article

• Time to revert the research at last moment can cause extensive pressure in team mates ,so they avoid unneccessary problems.
• To decrease work load
• To take a stand in the situation either favours or not favours
• The article can avoid as a single empirical research done by any researcher for any sake

3. My Opinion ​

I will defenitely consider the article as point of reference and discuss with my team mates in the presentation whether we should add the contents in the article or not? After duscussion we try to bring the opinions in to a single common base and if the majority supports to add the contents of article and revert the previous decision , then we take effort to change it or else we ignores the article and proceed with the former decision.
