The laundry bleach is listed at 5.25% m/m NaClO. Calculate the concentration of the NaClO in the laundry bleach solution in mol/L. Assume the density of the bleach solution is of 1.05 g/L.
Let us assume that volume of the laundry bleach is 1L
since , desity = mass/volume and volume is 1 L
so, mass of laundry bleach will be 1.05 gm
Mass % of NaClO = mass of NaClO *100 /TOTAL MASS
5.25 = mass of NaClO*100/1.05
mass of NaClO = 0.055125 gm
Molar mass of NaClO = 74.5 gm
Number of moles of NaClO = mass/ molar mass
= 0.055125 / 74.5
= 7.4*10-4 mol
Volume = 1 L (assumed earlier)
Concentration of NaClO = number of moles / volume
= 7.4*10-4 mol /1L
= 7.4*10-4 mol/L
Answer: 7.4*10-4 mol/L
