Expert Solution

The calculated values for Inpatient occupancy rate are as below:

Inpatient occupancy rate = Inpatient Service Days/(Bed count*No.of days)

Adults and Children Inpatient Service Days Bed Count Inpatient occupancy rate
January 1st–June 30th 15,637 192 0.2231
July 1st–December 31st 32,678 168 0.5329
December 31st only 136 200 0.0019

Interpretation of the Inpatient occupancy rate:

The occupancy rate shows what percentage of the beds were occupied in a given time period. So, In the first half on an average 22% of the beds were occupied, while approximately 53% beds were occupied in the second half of the year. The occupancy rate in first half was 0.2231(0r 22.21 %), while in the second half it was 0.5329 (53.29%), which indicates that occupancy rate was very low in first half and increased more than 150% in the next half of the year. Also, on the last day of the year, it was very low.
