While OLEDS are useful, sometimes they can be hard to convert to regular devices.
1)Are OLED's more or less robust than inorganic LEDS and why?
2) If a defect, for example a disruption in the conjugation of a polymer occurred, how would this change the light emitting properties of the material?
3) If lemon juice was spilled on your phone (aq citric acid) Draw the repeating unit of PPV and the mechanism of this species with aqueous acid. Would a defect occur? How likely is the reaction and name a common species in everyday life that can react with systems such as these.
OLED means organic LED, they are made of organic compounds and they light up when electricity is fed.
Both LED and OLED has advantages and disadvantages. Despite being easier to produce, can be made into large size and thin sheets, larger feild of view, flexible brighter, OLED suffer some disadvantages such as lower lifetime of only about 5000 hrs, purity of light, they are prone more to water and sunlight damage etc..
LED has a higher life time of 50000 hrs if properly engineered and has good color purity, enviornmental friendly and controllable. but it has some problems such as expensive and may change color due to age and temperature. engineering should be properly done to maintain LEDs life.
so it seems that inorganic LEDs can withstand temperature sunlight and is more robust than organic LEds.
the mechanical properties of the congugated polymer are corelated with their chemical properties. the structure of side chains of polymers have distict effect on mechanical properties. the polymer materials has high conductivity and superior mechanical property.the electrical conductivity results from the ability of the charge carriers to move.the inter and intra chain electron transfer led to the mechanical properties like youngs modulus and tensile strengh. as the conjugatedpolymers are always in thin films it is important to look into their mechanical properties. so if the congugation disrupted, it will affect the mechanical hence electrical and finally their robust nature .
