advantages and disadvantages of a fixed and fluidized bed adsorbent

advantages and disadvantages of a fixed and fluidized bed adsorbent

Solutions

Expert Solution

Fixed Bed Adsorbent

Advantage:

--The pressure drop is less in comparison to fluidized bed

--this has simple construction and easy to fabricate

--There will be ideal plug flow behavior , less maintainance cost causing less material lost due to erosion or attrition

-- It can medel upto large scale

Disadvantage

--Poor heat distribution

--less contact of fluid with solid

--There will be more time for contact of the fluid which is being adsorbed

--non uniform packing may cause channeling of fluid

--regeneration need shut down of plant

Fluidized bed adsorbent

Advantage:

--There will be more mixing hence rate of adsorption can be high

--They will provide more surface area for contact of fluid with solid

--haet distribution will be uniform

-- flow of both solid and liquid can be controlled

--Frequent regeneration of adsorbent can be done without shut down

Disadvantage

--pressure drop is high due to smaller size of particles

--material lost due to attrition

-- this require extensive ivestment and high maintainance and operating cost
