Which type of foundation (isolated, mat, pile, for example) do you feel is the most economically sound, based on time, cost, and labor?
This is very difficult to answer without having knowledge of construction site .it will be best understood as:
1) if soil condition is better at the construction site then it is best to go for isolated footing .It will be less time consuming, more economical and require less labours as this type of foundation is easy to construct.
2) if soil condition at the construction site is non uniform or where is differential settlement problem it is best then to go for a mat foundation .this type of foundation is more time consuming and is more expensive than isolated footing and also requires more labours.
3) if soil at the construction site is not so good to bear the superstructure loads to a certain depth the we go for deep foundation or pile foundation.this type of foundation takes more and more time for construction and requires more and more laborious and is mot expensive type of foundation.
In nutshell we can say that isolated footing is more economical, less laborious and less time consuming. Thus isolated footing economically sound ,based on time ,cost and labour.
