Quality audit may be defined as a process in which a company examines its quality of the process and/or the product. It is said to be important of the organization quality management system. This type of audit is conduct at a perpetual level at any organization or it can also be conducted periodically. Quality audit may also be the requirement of the regulators, as after implementation of ISO some organization has required it to be done mandatorily.

Various types of quality audit are:

1. Product audit.

2. Supplier audit.

3. Safety Audit

4. Environmental audit and many other types.

There are four steps in a quality audit:

1. Planning: At this stage, auditor understands the entity and its process including entity-level control. Once the auditor gets to know the organization he makes all the plan for conducting the audit.

Preparation: At this stage the auditor obtains more understanding about the QMS of the entity. AT this stage lead auditor explains to the other member of the team about the entity and other aspects of the audit. Further, lead auditor refines its plan as per the organization.

Execution: At this step company executes the audit, collect all the auditable document inspect the document and discuss with the management and those charged with governance about the audit finding. AT this stage also auditor interviews with the employee of the organization. Depending upon the finding auditor may also widen the scope of the audit.

Conclusion: At this stage, audit submit its final report to the auditee.
