Maryam was a relatively new employee and had only worked there for 6 months, while most employees at Herb's had been with the company since 1988. Maryam's values were closely aligned with company values, so she loved her new job at Herb's Green Products. One day, Maryam received a call from a dissatisfied customer. She told Maryam that she had spread the fertilizer in the garden, and after 1 hour many birds were found dead in her garden. She also complained that her dog was also playing in the garden, and after sometime dog had fainted. Maryam knew that the fertilizer is eco-friendly agricultural product and was made from fish byproducts and chicken manure, but she had also heard there was a “secret ingredient” that had only been revealed to long-time employees. Maryam made a note of the customer’s name and number and went immediately to her boss (Max). Maryam explained the customer’s complaint about the fertilizer. Max smiled and said “Some people will complain about the little things, we have been selling this fertilizer for 35 years. You really believe that something is wrong with our product. People love our product, we use all-natural ingredients”. Maryam thanked Max for his help and slowly headed back toward her cabin. Question 2 i. 1. Maryam will tell the client that they use only natural ingredients like fish byproducts and chicken manure. The company is selling the fertilizers for more than 3 decades and there a long list of happy clients. Maryam can ensure the client that they only sell natural ingredients and they have not received any complaint like this.

2. The herb’s green garden only use herbal products and they do not provide any harm to the environment. They also use the natural waste for making fertilizers and in this way they also helping the environment by making it clean and the waste materials are used in making fertilizers. Fertilizers help in growth of the plants and it helps the environment in avoiding soil erosion. It also helps in making the soil more fertile. Environment pollution is also minimized. The herbal products are always best for the environment. Only natural fertilizers must be used which do not harm the environment and the quality of the soil.

3. Maryam decision making challenge is that she was new to the company and all the other employees were working form a long period of time. She was aware that the company uses a secret product into their fertilizers which the old employees were only authorized to know. As Maryam was new to the company so she was not aware about it. Being in the quality department she was not aware about the facts. This was her biggest dilemma and this is the main decision- making challenge for her. She can talk to the employees and can clear her doubts and can share her experience of the client in order to get an answer.
