What is sociology? And of what relevance is sociology to contemporary African nations?
Sociology is a subject that deals with various social factors, social agencies, social relationship, interactions among the social members and so on. The study of sociology is the study of various social theories, relationship among the people, the development of the society, social belief and prejudice, and social positions of the people. Sociology includes the social relativism and is the study of the various social problems and the causes and effect of the society. Sociology makes us aware about the development of the society and it also tells us how the traditions and culture are valuable and how they have been changed in the course of time.
The Africans should be aware about their traditions and they should be aware about the change of their society. African are less developed and they are considered as the backward people. Africans had rich heritage and now the most of the culture have been eloped due to the advancement of civilisation. The Africans are not only scientifically underdeveloped but they are also backward mentally. They do not have social awareness. They are victim of prejudice and superstitions. With the study of sociology they can be aware about the change and they should value their own traditions and culture. Besides the study of sociology in Africa will bring social development and it will also develop their attitudes and they will be free from harmful system and Customs.
