“World War II reshaped ideas about American nationality.” Assess the validity of this statement by comparing the experiences of first-generation immigrants, second-generation immigrants, and blacks during World War II.
World War II actually reshaped ideas about American nationality. When the war was going on African American and immigrants were invited to the military as well as in the production where aid was required.
Most of the Americans, during world War 2 enable themselves to relax their mentality for the immigrants and surrender their discrimination. They consider them(African American and immigrants) essential part of America for the first time.
The starting of world war-2 eliminated the economic depression. The opportunity of jobs were provided specially to. Minority groups so that they get a chance to earn livelihood and earn good money for better life.
The racial tensions starred when African American shifted yo South from North with a view to get jobs or finding source of income. Too much prejudice against minorities was there during the war. There were enough jobs but still women and African Americans was not able to get good salary jobs, they were compelled to do low paying jobs. Women were given less salary in comparison to men for the same work. At the end of war women and African Americans were forced to quit their jobs so that returning soldiers can get employment.
Discrimination and prejudice was based by first generation immigrants. It was beyond tough for them to get employment because jobs were not provided on the basis of qualifications or skills. Many immigrants were not able to speak fluent english and they face problem in adjusting to the new culture.
Second generation immigrants grew up in United States and adopt the english as their only language. Law was amended from time to tell and they get old enough to grab the jobs and get more opportunities than their parents before them did. So we can say that World War II actually reshaped ideas about American nationality.
