Define secondary production and discuss how humans can minimize the yield from secondary producers, with minimum disruption to the environment.
The generation or production of biomass of heterotropic or consumer organisms is called as secondary production. The primary producers are generally plants in terrestrial ecosystem and phytoplanktons in aquatic ecosyster. The biomass produced by the primary producers are transferred to the next tropic levels.Organisms such as fungi, protists and some bacteria are the organisms include in the secondary production.
The yeild from secondary producers can be minimized by removal summation and the instantaneous growth method and the Allen curve method. Multiple human activities are common in human-dominated environments, knowledge of their influence on functional population parameters such as secondary production and biomass turnover is very limited. Secondary production integrates population characteristics such as biomass, size–frequency distribution and body growth rate, and provides a link between population and system ecologies.
